MANURSURO

TEACHER

MANURSURO (noun) ma/nur/su/ro

a person who help others to acquire knowledge, competences or values

When in an academic pursuit that targets an international range, it requires a physique of one person with the soul of millions of your countrymen. This is my dream of becoming a noble Manursuro.

Some may say that the longer you know the person, the more that you can call them your friend. But today I have realized how friendships aren’t really tested by the amount of time you have with a person, but rather the connection and and the unfiltered moments which you enjoy together.

January 21, 2018. My first official day in Madiun, Jawa Timur, Indonesia. I and my co-participant of the SEA Teacher Project and classmate, Krichelle wanted to exchange some money from our Philippine Peso to Indonesian Rupiah. We wanted to exchange as early as now because without the right currency we won’t have the means to buy and to really engage in buying something we want and we need. We were accompanied by our buddies Okta and Fiatra. When it was time to go out, I was actually surprised by their means of transportation because I thought we will be using a car perhaps since we are four. But to my surprise, two motorcycles welcomed us and the girls will be driving us there. It was pretty unusual because we aren’t allowed to use such in the Philippines at this age.

Upon traveling around the city, I have noticed how majority of the people in Madiun use motorcycles as a means of transportation. What amazed me is how respectful and patient the drivers are in following rules. They do really wait for the go sign of the traffic light and let others in front pave the way for the others at the back.

Upon reaching our destination, we got our Rupiahs and went to Rocket Chicken for brunch. We had some good conversations with each other and after that we went straight back to the dorm to rest.

This day may have involved money and the exchange of currencies but I have realized that behind the money and the journey towards getting the rupiahs is a company of the best people we have met, our new friends, our buddies. As I reminisce what happened on this day,I have internalized how life’s greatest treasure isn’t about money but rather the moments you have shared with your friends.

After all the wealthiest man lives not by their money; they live because of their wealth in love and friendship
